I am meant to be on holiday at the moment with my Mum, but her flight has been postponed because of the angry cloud of volcanic ash hanging over British airspace.

As one of my videshi friends pointed out, there’s something very un-European about massive disruption due to a natural phenomenon. Surely this kind of thing just happens in developing countries, not on our doorsteps, right? Wrong.
